Slack
Post every form submission to a Slack channel with an incoming webhook: create it, connect it in the dashboard and send a test.
Every submission can be posted to a Slack channel as well as emailed to you. SilentForms sends it through a Slack incoming webhook, a URL Slack gives you for one channel. Failed posts are retried, and each submission in the dashboard shows whether its Slack post went through.
1. Create an incoming webhook in Slack#
- Go to api.slack.com/apps and create an app for your workspace (choose "From scratch"). The name is what appears as the sender in the channel, for example "Website forms".
- In the app's settings, open Incoming Webhooks and switch it on.
- Choose Add New Webhook to Workspace, pick the channel and allow it.
- Copy the webhook URL. It starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/.
Treat the URL like a password: anyone who has it can post to that channel.
2. Connect it to your form#
- Sign in and open the form.
- Under Slack, Discord and Telegram, open Add Slack, paste the URL and choose Connect Slack.
- Choose Send test. A test message should appear in the channel within a few seconds.
SilentForms accepts only hooks.slack.com URLs here and stores the URL encrypted. It is never shown again in the dashboard.
What a post looks like#
New submission to Contact form
*name:* Jane
*email:* [email protected]
*message:* Hello! Each field is a line, in the order the form sent them. Long values are shortened to 500 characters; the full submission is in your email and the dashboard. Text that Slack would treat as a mention or link, such as <!channel>, is shown as typed, so a visitor cannot ping your whole channel.
When a post fails#
A post that fails is retried after 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours and 12 hours. If Slack answers that the webhook no longer exists (it was removed, or the app uninstalled), SilentForms stops retrying at once. Open the submission in the dashboard to see the error, fix the webhook, and use Retry now.
Next steps#
