SilentForms vs Formspree

The free Formspree alternative

Formspree's free plan accepts 50 submissions a month and keeps them for 30 days. CSV export and a custom thank-you page start at $15 a month; webhooks, the API and autoresponses at $30. SilentForms includes all of these except autoresponses for free, with no quota.

The short version

Formspree is a long-running hosted form backend: point a form at a Formspree endpoint and submissions arrive by email, in a dashboard and through plugins. It suits freelancers and agencies who want many ready-made integrations and team features, and are fine paying once they pass 50 submissions a month.

Choose SilentForms if

  • You expect more than 50 submissions a month
  • You want to keep submissions longer than 30 days
  • You want webhooks and the API without $30 a month
  • You want export, a thank-you page and extra recipients for free

Choose Formspree if

  • You need file uploads or an autoresponder: Formspree offers both on paid plans, SilentForms does not have them yet.
  • You want ready-made plugins for Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, a CRM or a newsletter rather than connecting them through a webhook.
  • You run forms for clients and want team seats, a rules engine and custom email domains.

Pricing

SilentForms has no paid plans: every feature is on every form. Here are Formspree's plans as its own pricing page lists them.

What SilentForms does differently

You expect more than 50 submissions a month

Formspree's free plan covers 50 submissions a month, and Personal 200. SilentForms has no quota: a busy month costs nothing extra.

You want to keep submissions longer than 30 days

Formspree keeps free-plan submissions for 30 days. SilentForms keeps them until you delete them, with CSV export whenever you want a copy.

You want webhooks and the API without $30 a month

On Formspree, webhooks and the submissions API come with Professional. SilentForms has both on every form, with failed webhooks retried.

You want export, a thank-you page and extra recipients for free

Formspree puts CSV export, a custom thank-you page and more than one recipient on Personal ($15 a month). SilentForms includes all three, with up to 5 extra recipients per form.

Where Formspree is strong

  • A large plugin catalogue: chat apps on the free plan; Google Sheets, Notion and Airtable on Personal; CRMs, newsletters and Zapier on Professional.
  • Agency features: linked client emails, teams, a rules engine and custom email domains.
  • A submissions API, a CLI and a React library.

Switching from Formspree

Your form's markup, fields and styling stay as they are. Most switches change one line.

  1. Step 1

    Get a key

Enter your email on the access key page and click the confirmation link. No password, no card.

  2. Step 2

    Change the action

Change the action from formspree.io/f/{form id} to the same /f/ path on SilentForms with your access key. The email, subject and _gotcha fields keep working, and so do older forms that use _replyto, _subject or _next.

  3. Step 3

    Send a test

Submit the form once and check your inbox. Open the dashboard to see it stored there too.

Questions

Is SilentForms really free?

Yes. Unlimited submissions, email delivery, webhooks, spam protection, CAPTCHA and the dashboard are all free, forever, for up to 25 forms per account. There are no paid plans and we never ask for a credit card. The only limits stop abuse: 10 submissions a minute from one IP address and 60 a minute per access key.

Can I keep my existing form when I switch from Formspree?

Yes. Change the action from formspree.io/f/{form id} to the same /f/ path on SilentForms with your access key. The email, subject and _gotcha fields keep working, and so do older forms that use _replyto, _subject or _next.

Do Formspree /f/ URLs really work the same way?

Yes. SilentForms accepts POST /f/{access key} just as Formspree accepts /f/{form id}, redirects plain HTML forms, and answers fetch requests with the ok, next and errors keys Formspree clients read.

What does Formspree offer that SilentForms does not?

You need file uploads or an autoresponder: Formspree offers both on paid plans, SilentForms does not have them yet. You want ready-made plugins for Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, a CRM or a newsletter rather than connecting them through a webhook. You run forms for clients and want team seats, a rules engine and custom email domains.
